Warning following thefts from motor vehicles across Moreton-in-Marsh

Officers are asking residents to be vigilant following a rise in reports of thefts from motor vehicles across Moreton-in-Marsh.

A number of incidents have been reported over recent weeks with offenders targeting vehicles parked onEvenlode Road, Croft Holm, Wellington Road, Banks Fee Lane, Oriel Grove and Fosseway Avenue.

Thieves have stolen sunglasses, a wallet, cash and a cheque book or searched vehicles but left empty handed.

Vehicle crime is often opportunistic and we're asking residents to check that vehicle doors are locked and personal belongings or valuables are removed where possible.

For advice on ways to help keep your vehicle safe please visit: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/keeping-vehicles-safe

There are some protective measures drivers can consider to help reduce the risk of catalytic converter thefts, these include:

  • Parking vehicles close to walls, fences, kerbs and garages with the exhaust closest to these, making gaining access to the underneath of the vehicle more difficult.
  • Where possible parking your car in a locked garage.
  • Avoiding parking your car partially on the pavement and if using a car park consider parking between other parked vehicles.
  • Considering CCTV, security lights and alarms where possible.
  • Anyone who has witnessed suspicious activity or is targeted by a vehicle break-in is asked to report this by completing our online form and quoting incident 110 of 13 April: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/soh/seen-or-heard/

You should call 999 if you see an incident in progress or offenders are still present.
