We’re reminding residents in the Forest of Dean to be vigilant following reports of Nottingham Knockers over recent days. A number of reports have been received of men visiting properties in Cinderford, Lydney and Coleford trying to sell items before becoming aggressive when homeowners refuse. Nottingham Knockers is a term used to describe doorstep callers who are often from out of county and offer a selection of household products for sale. Often they will claim to be former prisoners who are part of rehabilitation schemes that do not exist. Legally they must be in possession of a ‘Pedlars Certificate’ which must be signed by the police for the area they live in and they must produce it if asked. The groups tend to target the elderly and we are asking that this message is shared with any elderly or vulnerable neighbours/relatives who may feel intimated by their actions. If you think you have been the victim of fraud then please ring 101 or 999 if the offenders are still in the area. Action Fraud advises following the below steps if an individual comes to your house: | ||||
