Man attacked in suspected homophobic hate crime in Gloucester

Officers are investigating after a man was attacked in a suspected homophobic hate crime in Gloucester earlier this month.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened between approximately 11.20pm and 11.50pm on Friday 15 July.

The victim, a 38-year-old man from Gloucester, was walking along Worcester Street, near Walkinshaw Court, when he was attacked by two men he did not know.

He was punched and kicked, and suffered multiple cuts and scrapes to his elbows, knees and back. The victim also sustained a black eye and several bruises.

While the sustained attack was taking place, it has been alleged that homophobic slurs were said to the victim.

One of the men was described as being white, in his late 30s or early 40s, of a muscular or stocky build, with black hair which was short on the sides and styled in a bun. He also had some tattoos on one of his arms.

At the time of the incident the man was wearing a light blue top and cream shorts.

The second man was described as being white, tall, bald, in his late 30s or early 40s and of a slim build. At the time of the incident he was wearing white shorts, a top which was possibly white and burgundy and trainers.

Enquiries are ongoing and investigating officers are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which may assist police, to come forward if they have not already spoken to officers. It is believed the attack was witnessed by multiple people.
